PLASTIC CLAMSHELL COLORATION INFO: In my collection the action figures clam shell color varies from a dull clear plastic to a yellowish coloration depending on the age of the toy. But I've notice that sometimes age has nothing to do with yellowish clam shell. I have some older toys that the clam shell plastic are clearer or less yellowish than some I bought five years after. So I researched online why this discoloration accrues. The article I read mentioned that one cause is smoking, but I don't smoke. The biggest cause of this is uv sunlight. The article also mention that in his research he saw yellowish discoloration on collections where some collectors had their toys in trunks out of sunlight. So in his research he concludes that the minute the plastic gets uv even for an instant the damage is already done. It's only time before they start to changing.
He even mentioned if you still own a Super Nintendo you'll also notice the yellowish plastic look too. As I mentioned earlier, I don't smoke. Most of my collection has displayed on my shelves or hung on my wall. The ones on shelves I'll put away to display other ones since I don't have much space.
I'm downsizing my collection due to space not because they are old or clam shell is yellowish. The only clear clam shell toys in my collection is the fairly new one, other than that they are dull clear to yellowish. Some are hung where direct sunlight doesn't even hit and yet they have some discoloration to them.I believe the way the plastics are made also could contribute to discoloration. I have some older toys where the clam shell is lighter than some bought ten years ago. And I have some action figure sets that varies from action figure to action figure and they where bought as a set.
So I don't even know what I can do about the yellowish clam shells but say is part of aging. You can clearly see the toy inside. I did my best to take the best picture I could to show what you are getting. If you want more info feel free to ask.
